This mission is accomplished through prudent use of resources, technology, innovations, teamwork and coordination with other service providers in the City.
Overview
The Public Works Department's service encompasses 350 miles of streets; 360 miles of sewers; 47,000 parkway trees; 3,679 storm catch basins within City of Glendale boundaries; 50 debris basins; 30 miles of alleys; 60 multi space parking metes and 2,000 single space parking meters; 40,000 signs; and 226 traffic signals and 9 flashing beacons. Maintenance of the City's 600 curbs miles including street sweeping, curb marking, and curb & gutter repair.
Of the 43 buildings and sites owned by the City of Glendale, the Public Works Department provides 1.25 million square feet of general building maintenance and 474,308 square feet of custodial maintenance.
Under the Director of Public Works, the Administration office oversees the entire Public Works Department, which includes 400 employees and an operating budget of approximately $100 million.
Budget and Management Section - Is responsible for the preparation and management of the Department budget, special projects, internal controls, personnel management, legislative review, operational analysis, strategic planning and community outreach.
Environmental Management Section - Maintains and monitors the City's groundwater, stormwater, the Scholl Canyon and Brand Park Landfill, and wastewater collection/treatment programs.
