Regular street sweeping is an important city service that has multiple benefits. Removing debris from streets and gutters, and not letting it enter the storm drain system, reduces litter and pollution that would otherwise flow to the ocean, enhances the appearance of Glendale’s streets and neighborhoods, and decreases the chance of street flooding.
The City of Glendale Integrated Waste Management Division currently sweeps the entire city, roughly 800 miles of streets and gutters, once every two weeks, except for official City holidays. One-third of that sweeping area has posted weekly no-parking signs to facilitate street sweeping and other required maintenance.
When the refuse collection day for your area immediately follows the scheduled street sweeping day, please do not place your refuse, recycling or yard trimmings containers out for collection prior to 2:00 p.m. on that prior day in order to avoid conflicts with the street sweeping vehicles.
All collected street sweepings are taken to a contractor that recycles them into either compost or alternative daily cover, thereby reducing the total amount of collected waste requiring disposal by 97 percent.
The map (see link below) divides the City of Glendale into 49 street sweeping districts and indicates the day of the week when the district is swept and the whether it is swept on week one or two of a biweekly schedule. When you first open the map, it is at a small scale and the street names are not legible. In order to magnify the scale of the map, click on the box with the zoom percentage and click on 50%, then scroll around the map to find the area you are looking for.
