On October 31, 2005 at approximately 9:45 p.m. the Glendale Police Department received numerous 911 calls reporting gunshots being fired in the area of Glenwood Road and Alameda Avenue in the city of Glendale.
It was reported that two males from a white Honda confronted several males in a white van. The driver from the Honda exited his vehicle and fired several shots from a handgun. A 17 year old male of Armenian descent suffered a gunshot wound. His injuries were considered minor. He was transported to Glendale Memorial Hospital by his friends where he was treated and later released.
The suspects, later identified as Mkrtich Melkonian, 18 years, and Hrant Barsegyan, 18 years, both of North Hollywood, re-entered their Honda and fled the area after the shooting.
Prior to the victim arriving at the hospital the suspects once again engaged the victims and fired several more shots. The second shooting occurred at Western and the 5 freeway. No one was hit by gunshots in this second encounter.
The Burbank Police Department was advised of the shooting and given a description of the vehicle and the license plate. Officers of the Burbank Police Department saw the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in their city. The vehicle was the Honda involved in the Glendale shooting. The suspects were stopped and eventually taken into custody for attempted murder after a preliminary investigation.
The investigation is on-going. The circumstances leading up to the shootings are still under investigation.
Arraignment is set for Wednesday, November 2, 2005 in Glendale Superior Court.
