"I Love My Neighborhood" Poster Contest

The "I Love My Neighborhood" Poster Contest was developed in 1993 to educate students and their families about civic responsibility and neighborhood pride. Standards aligned lessons and activities are provided in a teacher’s guide where students learn about the sources of litter and pollution prevention.

Each year the poster contest receives thousands of entries and each year the judges have a difficult time selecting the finalists. After careful consideration to ensure each participant followed all guidelines and included the poster contest mascot, "Litter-Not" in their artwork, finalists are chosen from each participating school, park, or community-based organization. From these finalists, a Grand Prize winner is selected and unveiled at the awards reception and ceremony at the end of March or beginning of April.

Each year the top three winners in the "I Love My Neighborhood" Poster Contest are awarded a tree planting on behalf of the Committee for a Clean & Beautiful Glendale and Neighborhood Services. This year in collaboration with the Community Service and Parks Department, 3 Crape Myrtle trees were planted at each of the student’s school campuses. Grand Prize Winner, Daniella Yoon of Mountain Avenue Elementary, Second Place Winner, Nina Kim of Fremont Elementary, and Third Place Winner Dalita Pasmakian of Armenian Sisters’ Academy all helped in the actual planting of the trees as their entire class watched and cheered! These tree plantings signify the civic pride and environmental stewardship that all of the Poster Contest finalists are proud to display. After the awards ceremony, the winning student, their school principal, and teacher are recognized at a City Council meeting and presented with framed reproductions of the student's artwork.
