The Jr. Ambassador Program is designed to teach middle school students the leadership skills needed to implement an environmental awareness program at their school. This program consists of three major components:
- Litter Prevention
- Recycling
- Storm Water Pollution Prevention
Throughout the school year Ambassadors participate in various educational activities including, the Middle School Recycling Challenge, campus clean ups, Adopt-A-Block, presentations from guest speakers about environmental issues, field trips, and more.
Junior Ambassadors are having a direct impact on the quality of life in Glendale by eliminating
blight caused by litter and trash. The ambassadors are featured in many newspaper articles; a recent article is featured here. Furthermore, the recycling and storm water pollution components of the program are developing a strong sense of environmental stewardship in the participating youth. Through changed behavior and hands on training, Glendale youth will be able to make a significant impact in their community. For a Heal the Bay Presentation given at Wilson Middle School, click here.
