Glendale Urban Design Achievement (GUDA) Awards


Architects and Designers Honored
The award recipients of the Glendale Planning Department's first urban design achievement awards program were honored at an award reception on March 7, 2005. Awards of Excellence were given to the following projects:

"Mirabella" in the Residential Category. Designed by Garo Minassian. Project located at 2753 Piedmont Ave.

"Sidewalk Cafe, Coldstone Creamery" in the Commercial Category. Designed by Malekian and Associates (Design Firm). Project located at 901 W. Glenoaks Blvd.

"St. Gregory Armenian Church" in the Institutional Category. Designed by Alajajian, Marcoosi Architect, Inc. Project located at 1510 E. Mountain St.

Honorable Mention was given to the following project:

"Heritage Park, Glendale" in the Residential Category. Design Team, F&A Architects and Khan Consulting, Inc.

Award Selection Criteria
The Urban Design Awards recognized projects within the City of Glendale which demonstrate great achievement in both architectural design and innovation, along with the latest achievements in livable and sustainable design. These projects, at completion, must have successfully integrated architectural excellence by incorporating site planning sensitivity, adherence to City's current Design Guidelines and incorporation of innovative solutions to achieve neighborhood compatibility, and revitalization of the urban environment. One or more of the following three criteria were evaluated by a jury of design professionals:

  • Innovative Design
  • Design Quality/Sustainability
  • Site Planning/Sensitivity
