Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance, September 10, 2009
All agencies in California are to follow the State's "Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance." On January 26, the Glendale City Council authorized staff to prepare a less complicated ordinance for Glendale, that accomplishes the same goals. Until then, the State's ordinance is to be used.

North Glendale Community Plan
Next community meetings are tentatively scheduled for Monday, March 22, 2010 and Wednesday, March 24, 2010 from 7-9:00 p.m. at Clark Magnet High School, located at 4747 New York Ave.

Change in Counter Hours Feb. 1
Starting February 1, 2010 the counter hours in the Permit Services Center will be from 7 am to 3 pm (previously 3:30)

Drought Tolerant Landscaping Now Required
The Glendale City Council declared a Phase II Water Conservation Emergency.

All landscape plans going before the Design Review Boards must consist entirely of "California Friendly Landscaping." "California Friendly Landscaping" means those plants listed on The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California water wise website at: www.BeWaterWise.com

For fire-retardant water-wise plants go to: www.clwa.org/conservation/h2oplants.cfm

New Fees Adopted by Council
The City Council adopted new Planning fees on July 7, 2009. The fees took effect on September 8, 2009. Fees for Design Review, Conditional Use Permits, and Variances were increased to account for increased workloads processing these requests. Fees for Parking Use and Parking Reduction permits now are the same as a Standards Variance. The fee for a Use Variance is now the same as a Zone Change.

The Council authorized staff to begin charging applicants for postage and legal noticing when an appeal is filed.

Council also authorized staff to begin charging double fees for attempts to legalize illegal structures, alterations or uses. Examples include attempts to legalize window replacement, siding replacement, operation without a Zoning Use Certificate, or Variances to legalize additions or uses.

Changing Your Windows? Get a Permit!

If you are replacing windows in your home or business, you need a permit from the City of Glendale Building and Safety Department. This applies even when you are putting new windows into the existing frame or when the windows can't be seen from the street. The only time you don't need a permit is when you are just replacing the glass in an existing window.
