Park Ranger Program
The Community Services & Parks Park Rangers offer a variety of programs and services for the community. Programs highlight the natural areas in the city and encourage visitors to develop an appreciation for the plants and animals that call them home. Park Rangers also patrol parks, facilities and open space areas to ensure visitors have a safe environment in which to recreate.
The Park Rangers offer a series of hikes throughout the year. Comfortable shoes and drinking water are suggested. Special requests for hikes are accepted for school, community, and special interest groups.
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION EXPERIENCE TRAILER - "THE CUBE"
The Park Ranger program recently completed construction of a mobile outdoor classroom. The purpose of the trailer is to provide environmental education programs to school children, residents of Glendale, and visitors to Glendale's parks and open space areas.
"The Cube" is a 20 foot custom-built trailer with a passive display area on one side which highlights the animals found in the Glendale area. The other side has a fold-down stage for more interactive presentations. In addition, there are modular displays, and hands on activities for patrons to enjoy.
Particular emphasis is given to developing the skills and knowledge necessary about the environment and its natural resources. The Cube is available for school programs, park events, and social organizations/clubs.
Funding for the project was provided through grants from the State of California's Department of Parks and Recreation and the Glendale Community Foundation.
CLIMBING WALL
The Glendale Park Ranger Explorer/Venture Crew 303 operates a 20-foot portable rock climbing wall. The wall is used at various City and community events. The Climbing Wall is also available for school programs and social organizations/clubs.
For further information, call the Glendale Park Rangers at (818) 548-3795.
