Obituary Requests

How to request local newspaper research, including obituary searches, in the Glendale News-Press:

$20.00 fee per name or event, to include search, response and delivery. This fee must be pre-paid and is used to recover costs for staff time, printing, and postage. Copies of articles will be sent, if found. If no records are found, the fee is still required. Staff will notify the requester as to what resources were checked for the requested information.

Requests will be handled in the order they are received and may take two to four weeks to complete.

Patrons who are able to come to the Central Library may search the microfilm newspaper files themselves, at no charge, and may download articles to a memory stick /flash drive for free or print a copy at 20 per page.

The Central Library will provide a copy of an obituary, or a related article, from our microfilmed copies of the local newspaper, The Glendale News-Press. Because there is no index to the newspaper, this service is available only if: the individual in question was a Glendale, CA, resident; we have an exact date of death (or date of the event desired).

We will search the News-Press microfilm for the ten days following the death date provided in the request. Staff may also search either the Historic Los Angeles Times (1881-1987) or the Los Angeles Times (1985-Current) database as appropriate.

Please note that the fee is for the search and must be paid even in the event that no obituary is found.

Payment is required at the time of request. Please make check or money order payable to: Library, Arts & Culture Department. The Library is not currently able to accept credit card payments.

Requests may be submitted by mail to:

Library, Arts & Culture Department
Attention: Reference Department
222 East Harvard Street
Glendale, CA, 91205

Be sure to include all of the pertinent information for your search and your mailing address with the request, and your email address, if available.

If you do not have a death date you may try one of these sources:
