How do I find magazine and newspaper articles?

The easiest way to find information in a magazine or newspaper is to search Infotrac, a computer database. You can search Infotrac in the Library, or from a computer at home or work.

Infotrac is a good source for newer articles (within the last 20 years.) Many of these articles are full text. This means you can read the entire article on the computer.

If the full text is not there, write down the "citation". The citation includes:
  • the title of the magazine
  • The date of the magazine
  • The page number of the article.
Then, ask a Librarian to help you find the magazine. It may be printed, or it may be on microform. The Librarian can show you how to read and print the microform in a special reader.

You can find older magazine and newspaper articles by using the printed index, The Readers Guide to Periodical Literature. Search this index by subjects or names. Write down the citation, and ask a Librarian how to find the printed copy.

The Library has the Glendale News Press on microform from about 1925, but there is no index to it. The Special Collections Room at the Central Library has a large file of clippings about local history and events. Ask a Librarian how to use this room.

The Brand Art and Music Library has special magazines and newspapers for art and music subjects.
