About Brand Library

Brand Library & Art Center is temporarily closed for renovation and will reopen March 27. Please visit us at www.brandlibrary.org or on Facebook for further information and renovation updates.

The Brand Library is an art and music library including an adult collection of books, compact discs, records, videos, slides, prints, and periodicals. It also houses an Art Gallery with 4 exhibits a year featuring Southern California artists, and a Recital Hall available for art and music events. Built in 1904, the Brand home known as "Brand's Castle" has a unique history.

At Brand Library, up to 15 books and 15 records may be checked out per day. 15 compact discs, 3 unframed prints, 3 slide sets, 3 videos and 3 DVDs may be checked out on your card at any given time.

Most Library materials may be borrowed for 21 days. Framed prints may be borrowed for 56 days. Holds may be placed on which are checked out.

Because of the delicate nature and high replacement cost of materials, Brand Library does not have a book drop. Books must be returned during open hours at Brand or other branches of the Library, Arts & Culture Department. No Brand items may be placed in a book drop at any library. Audio visual materials must be returned to Brand.

The Library currently holds 70,000 book titles, 125 periodical subscriptions, 25,000 compact discs, 16,000 records, 800 videos and DVD, 25,000 slides, 600 art prints and 200 piano rolls.
Brand Library materials are circulated to persons 16 years of age or older. People under 16 should be accompanied by an adult when visiting the Library. A Glendale library card may be obtained by providing a valid California driverís license or California Identification Card with current residential address, or other acceptable proof of California residence.
Reference services are available on a walk in basis. Limited reference services are available by phone.
Brand Library accepts donations of art and music books, records, CDs, and art and music magazines in good condition. A Donor Slip for tax purposes is supplied to the provider upon request. The slip lists items donated, but library staff are not able to appraise donations. Donations may be delivered to the back door (ring doorbell) any time during library open hours.
