One Glendale hero's story...
Over 100,000 people of Japanese ancestry, most of them American citizens, were incarcerated in the early part of World War II without any due process of law or any espionage-related charges against them -- then or ever.
Manzanar, the first of ten such concentration camps, was enclosed by guard towers and confined 10,000 people. In the face
of blatant racism they survived and many became heroes.
The only Japanese American to receive a Congressional Medal of Honor was Glendale resident Sadao S. Munemori, who fought with the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442d Combat Team, in Italy. His family received word of his death while they were at Manzanar.
When The Emperor Was Divine and Weedflower were selected to help tell the stories and experiences of the internment.
