Central Library Renovation

The Library Arts and Culture Department held a community meeting on April 8, 2013, to solicit input regarding the design for the upcoming renovation of the Central Library. View/download the PowerPoint version or the PDF version of the presentation.

Gruen Architects made a presentation explaining the goals of the project, the history of the building, the proposed modifications, and the rationale for the changes. The primary concern of the thirty-five community members in attendance was the location of restrooms. Another concern was the relocation of public entrances to Harvard Street and to the south of the structure. Participants agreed with the proposed drought tolerant landscaping.

Gruen Architects firm is also responsible for the Brand Library and Art Center Renovations Project currently in construction. Their projects include the Shatford Library at Pasadena City College, Union Station, Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Hollywood Bowl, among others.
