Housing Programs |
The housing office selects program participants from the program's existing waiting list. Once approved, the family or individual use their voucher to select a rental unit in the wide range of private market housing found in our community. The Owner can select or reject a prospective Section 8 tenant application, and is responsible for screening and approving a tenancy.
Eligible tenants selected for assistance are screened by the Housing Assistance office and must meet federal criteria:
- Tenant must be a "family" or eligible single person.
- Tenant household must be within annual Income limits established for program.
- All family members age six and older must furnish Social Security Numbers.
- At least one head of household must be either a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident alien with eligible immigration status.
- The Housing Assistance Office performs a criminal background check for all adult applicants. Current drug-related criminal activity or other criminal activity that is a threat to the health, safety or property of others will disqualify a family from participation in the program or may result in termination of assistance. A household that includes a member who is subject to lifetime registration as a sex offender under State law may not receive assistance under the program.
