1. Adams Neighborhood Parking Study
Staff and a representative committee of area residents and business owners have been working on this issue for the several months. The committee is focused on identifying the sources of parking demand and supply in the Adams Neighborhood and developing short and long term solutions to the area parking problems.
2. Auto Dealer Incentive Program
The South Brand Boulevard Auto Dealers and Agency staff has been working to implement several programs that assist the Dealers with strengthening and expanding their Glendale Dealerships. Efforts include assistance with permitting processes, vehicle storage, directional signage, and improvements to the physical ascetics of the South Brand Boulevard area.
3. Business Improvement District (BIDs)
The Redevelopment Agency has authorized staff to work on the development of BIDs in several of the Neighborhood Business Districts. BIDs allow for the businesses involved to band together and act cohesively in marketing and improving their Business District. The effort is funded by self assessments of the participating businesses. Staff is working on the feasibility of such a program for both the Downtown and Adams Square areas.
4. Kenneth Village Beautification
The merchants in this Neighborhood Business District and staff have worked together closely for the past 18 months to develop an improvement plan for the area. Construction of the planned improvements will begin in January 2003 and include new street lighting, sidewalks, roadway improvements, alley lighting & resurfacing, and decorative pedestrian crosswalks.
5. New Auto Dealerships on Brand
The Economic Development Team of the Development Services Department has made a concentrated effort to assist auto dealers with their development plans. Several dealerships including Glendale Toyota and New Century Volkswagen have recently completed building and expanding their Glendale dealership facilities.
Other Glendale Auto Dealers such as Glendale Lexus and Pacific BMW are currently working with staff to complete their development plans for new Auto Dealerships. Each of these development represent major financial investments each Auto Dealer and further strengthens Glendale position in the marketplace while providing numerous high paying blue collar jobs.
