Notice of Department Realignment
 

Please be advised that in September, 2009, the Glendale City Council approved the realignment of the functions and responsibilities of the Community Development and Housing Department into three new, reformulated departments in order to improve service delivery to the community through coordination of programs and staff.  This realignment and transfer of functions and responsibilities is effective as of January 1, 2010.  The former Community Development and Housing divisions and their new respective departments are noted below:

Like others, you have likely selected our city to be your new home because of the quality and character of our neighborhoods and the safe environment our city provides. We in Neighborhood Services are here to help preserve and maintain the high quality of Glendale's residential and commercial neighborhoods. To help you become familiar with your new home, we have prepared some information you might find useful, both during your move and in the years to come.

Getting "Connected"

Water Services, Electricity and Refuse

Glendale operates its own public utility for water, electrical and refuse service. To sign up for all services, or for information on water and electrical service, call (818) 548-3300. To find out about refuse or recycling pick-up, call (818) 548-3916.

Gas Service

Glendale is served by the Southern California Gas Company. To sign up, call (800) 427-2200.

Cable TV

Glendale is served by Charter Communications. To sign up for cable TV, call (866) 499-8080.

Telephone Service

AT&T is the local telephone company. To sign up, call (800)310-2355.

Department of Motor Vehicles

For general information (driver's license, car registration, etc.) or to schedule appointments, call the DMV in Glendale at (800) 777-0133. DMV Office is located at 954 W. Glenoaks.

Marriage, Birth, and Death Records

For records, call L.A. County Clerk at (562) 462-2137.

Glendale Superior Court

For general information (traffic issues, civil trials, etc.) call Glendale's Superior Court at 500-3551. Court house is located at 600 E. Broadway.

Glendale Schools

To enroll your children in the Glendale Unified School District for grades K-12, call (818) 241-3111. To enroll in the Glendale Community College or for more information about programs, call 240-1000.

Dog License

All dogs must be licensed. To license your dog, call the City Clerk's Office at (818) 548-2090.

Neighborhood Associations

Glendale has many active neighborhood and homeowner associations. To get involved or find out more information about your Neighborhood Association, call (818) 548-3700.

City Services

Community Services & Parks Department

Glendale Library System

To find out about library programs or the location of the library nearest you, call (818)548-2030.

Neighborhood Services

To report graffiti, lack of property maintenance, illegal businesses, zoning violations or other problems, call Neighborhood Services at (818) 548-3700 or via the web at: www.ci.glendale.ca.us/cdh/quality_neighborhoods.asp

Glendale Police Department

Call (818) 548-4840 for general police information.

Glendale Fire Department

Call (818) 548-4810 for fire prevention information.

FOR POLICE, FIRE, AND MEDICAL EMERGENCIES, CALL 911.

Glendale Municipal Code Requires

  • All residential property owners maintain and water landscaping, including parkways
  • Owners and tenants are both responsible for property maintenance
  • All cars be registered and operable when parked or stored on the property (except when stored inside an enclosed garage)
  • Trash cans are stored out of view from the front of the house, except for pick-up on trash day
  • Tenants may only be evicted for legal cause

Glendale Municipal Code Prohibits

  • Walls or fences in the front yard area, except in the horse overlay zone (HOZ)
  • Storage in the front & side yard areas
  • Paved front yards other than driveways
  • Parking on the front lawn
  • Dumping unwanted items on the parkway without
  • scheduling an over-sized item pick-up
  • Trimming or removing certain trees (Sycamore, Live Oak, Bay Laurel) without a permit
  • In-home businesses without a permit or which impair residential character
