Notice of Department Realignment |
| |
Please be advised that in September, 2009,
the Glendale City Council approved the realignment of the
functions and responsibilities of the Community Development and
Housing Department into three new, reformulated departments in
order to improve service delivery to the community through
coordination of programs and staff. This realignment and
transfer of functions and responsibilities is effective as of
January 1, 2010. The former Community Development and Housing

Neighborhood Request Program
What is the Neighborhood Request Program?
The purpose of the Neighborhood Request Program is to provide neighborhood groups with the opportunity to request and receive funding for modest public improvements within their neighborhood. These public improvements are typically in the public right-of-way and are designed for the safety, convenience and benefit of the public. Eligible public improvements include:
•
Parkway trees and landscaping;
•
Curb and sidewalk improvements; street lighting upgrades;
•
Public fencing;
•
Traffic calming improvements;
•
Street or identification signage;
•
Park, playground, and open space improvements
•
School improvements; improvements to community buildings; etc.
Who can apply?
Any individual or neighborhood group in the City of Glendale may apply. Applicants should represent a group (complete reverse side of application) to ensure a visibly democratic structure and participation process and that the project represents the wishes of the majority of residents in the neighborhood. Although any neighborhood in the City is eligible to submit a request for public improvements, the program is targeted primarily to southern Glendale neighborhoods, due to the use of CDBG funds, which are limited to low and moderate income neighborhoods.
What are the criteria for evaluating neighborhood improvement projects?
•
The project improves the public health and safety of the residents in the neighborhood
•
The project enhances the aesthetics of the neighborhood
•
The project represents the wishes of the majority of residents in the neighborhood
•
The project must be of a modest nature in scope and cost $100,000 or less
How to Get Started?
Complete the attached two part application and tell us about your idea of a neighborhood public improvement. Project funding is subject to continued and annual funding availability by the City of Glendale.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss a potential project please contact the Department of Community Development and Housing at (818) 548-2060.
