Keep America Beautiful

Neighborhood Services > Keep America Beautiful

In May 2003 the City Of Glendale became the 521st city to become a Keep America Beautiful (KAB) affiliate. Working closely with the staff of Neighborhood Services, the Committee for a Clean & Beautiful Glendale (CCBG) has served as the affiliate and liaison between KAB and the City. Keep America Beautiful, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating individuals about litter prevention and ways to reduce, reuse, recycle, and properly manage waste materials. It’s mission is to “engage individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their community environments”. Over 500 cities, towns, and counties in 40 states as well as internationally are implementing the Keep America Beautiful programs as certified community affiliates.

In December 2004, Ray Empson, President of Keep America Beautiful gave Glendale one of it’s highest honors by presenting CCBG representatives with its 1st Place Affiliate Award and the President’s Circle Award during KAB’s 51st Annual Conference in Washington D.C. These awards recognize the City’s exemplary effort to reduce litter, minimize waste, and beautify and improve the community.

In qualifying for a President’s Circle Award, Keep Glendale Beautiful has met Keep America Beautiful’s standards of excellence by conducting an annual Litter Index and engaging volunteers to take greater responsibility for their community environment. In addition, award recipients must conduct activities in Keep America Beautiful’s three core focus areas of litter prevention, waste reduction, and beautification/community improvement.

For more information on the "Keep America Beautiful City" designation or to participate in future Committee for Clean & Beautiful Glendale activities, contact Sandra Rodriguez, Program Coordinator, at (818) 548-2877.
